Father Peter

Fr. Greg Shaffer grew up in Bethesda, Maryland and graduated from Gonzaga College High School in 1989 and the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Communication) in 1994.  He spent a total of six years at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary ( Md. ) and worked as a sales manager during his two leaves of absence from the seminary.  During his last year in seminary (2004-05), he had a great time helping out with ministry at the Newman Center.

In 2006, he was among twelve men who were ordained priests for the Archdiocese of Washington by Cardinal McCarrick at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  He served at St. Andrew Apostle parish for three years before coming to GW.  His two loves are the Eucharist and young people, so he is psyched to be the chaplain at the GW Newman Center!  He very much looks forward to getting to know the students and serving them.
