Father Gurnee

I was born in Westchester Co., New York and moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in sixth grade. I earned a BA in Economics from NC State and, after working briefly in office equipment sales, moved to Washington, DC in 1989 where I became a staff member for the Honorable Robert F. Smith of Oregon's 2nd Congressional District.

Five years later, I entered Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. I had thought about the priesthood my entire life, but it was only through serious reflection and the prayers of the Blessed Mother that I finally made the step. On June 10, 2000, I was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Washington.

After ordination, I served two years as a parish priest at St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, Maryland. My next assignment was a secretary to Cardinal McCarrick, who after one year sent me for further studies at The Catholic University of America. I am currently pursuing a J.C.L. in Canon Law. Immediately before coming to The George Washington University, I served as Catholic chaplain to the students, faculty, and staff of American University.

I enjoy playing golf, reading, and going to museums (particularly the National Gallery of Art). My father is still alive and well, as are my two sisters and one brother. They are all married with children in North Carolina.

I am here to serve you, the students. You can email me at chaplain@gwcatholic.com or feel free to stop by my office at the Newman Center. I look forward to getting to know each one of you.
